San Geronimo Valley

A San Geronimo Valley gem where a custom house and three other structures create an appealing country compound. Set on 2.3+ sundrenched acres at the far end of a quiet road, a major vista unfolds across soaring living room windows and an open-air deck. With an eye on indoor/outdoor living around the house as well as between buildings, this inspired property includes a 2 BD, 2 BA home with private, lower-floor guest quarters, day-use yurt for office or workshop, greenhouse for year-round growing and a solid shed for tools and dry storage. Plus, a protected stone patio houses a large pizza oven, barbecue, and picnic table. Additionally, a stand-alone roof shelters a road-worthy Airstream for offsite camping. The house embraces daytime solar warmth, nighttime twinkling stars, and is surrounded by abundant flora and fauna. It's replete with artistic custom details designed and installed by the owners. Located at the foot of Mt Barnabe, it's a convenient drive east to urban Marin, and west to rural West Marin and the coast.

San Geronimo Valley

Neighborhood

San Geronimo Valley lies between the western edge of Fairfax and the eastern edge of Samuel P. Taylor Park. Home to four unincorporated towns—Woodacre, San Geronimo, Forest Knolls, and Lagunitas—it’s known locally as The Valley. It includes country neighborhoods, ranchland, forests, creeks, and Mt. Barnabe. It’s the transition from urban Marin to the wild coast of West Marin.

The western edge of Forest Knolls -where Arroyo Road winds west and away from Sir Francis Drake up to Mt Barnabe- is an enviable setting for a small country retreat tucked in the folding foothills of the iconic mountain. “You Belong Here" is the welcoming motto of the nearby community center which hosts events and activities for all age groups.

Next door the desirable Lagunitas School District serves children from kindergarten through 8th grade. A farm stand offers local produce and organic meats, while small grocery stores, book exchanges, baked good stands, and restaurants dot the valley floor. The area is rich with bike routes, hiking trails, horse stables, and riding paths, making it a haven for outdoor recreation.

Marin County’s Fire Department Headquarters are in Woodacre. In the future, the department will move to a larger facility in neighboring San Geronimo. Sheriff’s deputies and CHP patrol the Valley, while the Pulitzer Prize-winning Point Reyes Light covers local news. West Marin’s local radio station, KWMR, also has a dedicated transmitter for the Valley.

Most importantly, the Valley is home to a close-knit community that shares a deep appreciation for a relaxed, rural way of life.
